Hire Android Developers in India
Dedicated native Android engineers in Kotlin, Java and Jetpack Compose, who build your app and keep it on Google Play as the rules change every year. Our attrition is under 5% against an industry average of 20 to 25%. Start with a 5-day free trial.
No obligation. Interview as many engineers as you like before you commit.
A native Android app in three layers, written in Kotlin or Java with no framework in between. It reaches users through a staged Google Play rollout, or directly to a field team.
What Actually Determines Your Android Rate
We do not publish one number, because seniority, team size and terms change it. Here are the six things that move your rate, and a firm quote in one working day.
Seniority
An engineer who builds screens from a Figma file and one who can untangle a Gradle build, fix a memory leak and own your Play Console releases are different products. We will tell you which one your work needs.
Team size
One engineer and a pod of four are priced differently. Per-head cost drops as the team grows, because our overhead per engineer drops with it. A pod also keeps your releases moving when someone is on leave.
Contract duration
A three-month engagement and a two-year one carry different rates. An Android app is never finished, because Google moves the goalposts every year, and longer commitments price better as our recruitment cost is spread further.
Payment terms
Advance, milestone and net-30 billing are not priced the same. Tell us what your finance team needs and we will price around it, rather than pretend the payment terms make no difference to us.
Where you contract from
Indian clients are quoted in rupees at domestic rates with GST. International clients are quoted in US dollars. Two markets, two rate cards, both set fairly for the market they serve. You will never be handed a converted dollar rate in India.
Remote, onsite or hybrid
Most engagements run remotely from Coimbatore. Some do not: we have placed Android engineers full time inside a client's delivery centres in Coimbatore, Chennai and Bengaluru. Onsite carries allowance costs, so it is priced separately, but it is genuinely available.
A firm quote in one working day
Tell us the platforms, the seniority, how many engineers and roughly how long. You get a written quote with the rate, the minimum term and the notice period inside one working day. No discovery call required first, and no obligation after.
Four Things We Put in Writing Before You Pay
Hiring an engineer thousands of kilometres away is a leap of faith. These four commitments are in every contract we sign, not buried in a proposal deck.
5-day free trial
Work with the engineer for five business days at no cost. Real tickets, real sprint, your tools. If it is not a fit, you owe nothing.
Replacement in 5 business days
Unhappy with the engineer at any point in the engagement? We replace them free of charge within five business days. No argument, no invoice.
100% IP ownership
Every line of code, every commit, every design file is yours from the moment it is written. Assigned in the contract, not promised verbally.
Signed NDA + ISO 27001:2022
Mutual NDA signed before you share anything. Our information security is independently certified, so your security review already has an answer.
Four Situations Our Android Engineers Are Hired For
If one of these sounds like your quarter, you are in the right place.
Keep a live app on Google Play
Google raises the target API level every year, and apps that fall behind stop reaching new users. You need engineers who can upgrade the SDK, fix what the new Android version breaks, clear the policy warnings in Play Console and keep releasing on schedule.
Move off old or retired code
The app is in Java with XML layouts, or built on a framework that has reached end of life, such as Xamarin. You need it moved to Kotlin and Jetpack Compose without freezing releases, by engineers who have done exactly that migration inside a client team.
Add Android capacity to your team
You have a product, a backlog and a headcount gap. Our engineers join your standups, your tracker and your repo and report to your lead, remotely from Coimbatore or onsite in your office. We have placed Android engineers inside client teams in three Indian cities.
An Android app for your own people
Your sales reps, delivery staff or field teams carry Android phones, and you need an app that captures orders, works offline and syncs later. Android-only is the right call when you control the devices, and it can be distributed straight to your team without a public listing.
What Our Android Engineers Actually Work With
The specific toolset our engineers use in production, kept short on purpose: everything here is something we will defend in a technical interview.
Language & UI
Data & background work
Device & integrations
QA, release & pipeline
Three honest caveats, so you hire the right person
On iPhone
A native Android engineer ships Android. If you also need an iPhone app, that is a Swift engineer and a second codebase. We staff both, and if one team for both stores matters more, React Native is worth a look.
On when native is overkill
A simple business app that must ship on both stores at once rarely needs two native teams. Native earns its cost when you need deep device access, Android-only hardware or the newest OS features on day one. We will tell you which yours is.
We Also Staff Native iOS, React Native and Flutter
If your product needs an iPhone app alongside, a second app in a cross-platform framework, or someone to test it all on real devices, the same account covers it.
Native iOS
Swift and Objective-C, SwiftUI or UIKit, App Store submission and review
React Native
JavaScript and TypeScript, one codebase for both stores, for teams on React
Flutter
Dart and widgets, one custom-branded interface on iPhone and Android
Mobile QA
Manual testing on real Android and iOS devices, plus release management
This is not theoretical. Over nine years we placed Android, iOS and React Native developers, QA engineers and business analysts onsite at Presidio's Coimbatore, Chennai and Bengaluru delivery centres. Their Xamarin to native Android migration is the first case study below.
Three Seniority Bands, and What Each One Can Do
Name the band and you get three real CVs matched to it within 48 hours, assessment reports attached. Here is the work each band genuinely owns.
Owns the app architecture, the Gradle build and the Play Console release process. Plans Java to Kotlin and Views to Compose migrations, handles the yearly target API upgrade, and tracks down memory leaks, crashes and frozen screens on real devices. The band you want if the app is inherited or years behind.
Takes a requirement and ships it end to end: screens from Figma in Compose or XML, ViewModels and coroutines, Room and Retrofit, push notifications, maps and payments. Prepares the release build, pushes it through the testing tracks and works any Play review feedback. Most staff augmentation engagements sit here.
Works well-specified tickets on an existing app: screens from a design file, forms and validation, list and detail screens, API calls, crash fixes from Crashlytics and support. Reviewed by one of our senior Android engineers on delivery quality. Good value where you have a clear backlog and someone to review the work.
Sent within 2 working hours during IST business hours. We also keep a live bench list of available engineers across every stack.
Not on Our Bench? You Still Get a Profile.
Most vendors go quiet when the exact skill you need is not sitting idle in their office. We do not, because our own bench is not the only bench we can reach.
In-house first, always
We start with our own 80+ engineers in Coimbatore. If the match is on our payroll, that is who you get, because it is the fastest and most accountable option for both of us.
30+ partner companies across India
Where we do not have the match in-house, we have standing partnerships with more than 30 established Indian IT services companies and access to their benches. Far wider reach than any single company's bench, without going near an anonymous freelance marketplace.
One point of contact, same guarantees
You deal only with us. We source, screen and assess the engineer, we hold the contract, we send one invoice, and we carry the accountability. The 5-day trial, the 5-business-day replacement, the IP assignment and the NDA all apply exactly the same way.
This is not theoretical. For Biz2Credit in New York we screened 250+ profiles and onboarded 30+ engineers in three months. That was a JavaScript engagement, not Android, but the sourcing model is the same. Read the Biz2Credit case study.
Android Apps We Have Built, Migrated and Run
A Xamarin migration inside a global IT firm, a consumer app with 5 lakh+ installs, a school platform and a field sales app. We will walk you through any of them on a call.
Presidio had to move a mobile app off Xamarin, Microsoft's cross-platform framework, after Microsoft ended support. We placed native Android engineers in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose inside Presidio's own team to rebuild it as a native app.
- Xamarin app migrated to native Android with Jetpack Compose
- Engineers worked onsite inside the client's project team
- Chennai team recognised in July 2024 for delivering the migration on schedule
Onsite staff augmentation
Gainr lets people earn on the side through trip-sharing, paid surveys, freelance gigs and renting out things they own. We have worked on its native Android app for three years and built core features of it.
- Live on Google Play with 5 lakh+ downloads and a 4.5 rating from 17,900+ reviews
- Four ways to earn in one app, with Aadhaar-verified users and zero commission
- About half of the app built by our team, in the founder's own words
- Published under the client's own developer account, as every client's should be
What the founder says: Mayukh R says a full-time in-house team was a financial burden for his startup. With us, issues get fixed fast and the terms stay flexible.
— Mayukh R, Founder, Gainr · summarised from his video testimonial
Long-term product development, ongoing
A school management platform: an ERP for the office and a branded app for each school's parents and staff. The founder worked with Bala before Techno Tackle existed, and we have been its development team ever since.
- 18 school-branded Android apps on Google Play, under the client's own account
- Attendance, homework, notices, fees, exams and live bus tracking for parents
- Continuous development, enhancement and bug fixing as the product grows
- Futuristic Schools reports serving 500+ schools today
"As a SaaS provider, we need to develop our product constantly as per the client needs. It was never possible without Techno Tackle, as our startup has never hired any other developers on our own or outside Techno Tackle."
— Simrandeep Kaur, Founder, Futuristic Schools · extract from case study
Development partner since before day one
Sales reps took orders on paper, and management could not see returns or targets. We built a native Android app in Java for the field sales team, with a Laravel backend and admin for head office.
- Orders, sales reviews, customers, reps and trade schemes managed in one app
- Annual savings of ₹35 to 40 lakh and a 20% productivity gain, per the case study
- Support team cut from 12 to 6, and returned goods down from 4% to 2.5%
- Distributed directly to the sales team rather than through a public listing
"Their ability to understand business requirements was really commendable. They met the requirements 100%."
— Palaniappan SN, Director, StratWorks Consulting, consultant to Krishna Bhavan Foods · extract from case study

How We Vet, and How You Should Test Us
Every vendor claims their developers are "A+". Here is our actual process, and the questions we think you should use to check whether it worked.
Our screening process
- CV and stack screen Role-specific filter against the Android skill matrix above: Kotlin or Java, Compose or XML views, which API levels they have upgraded through, and which apps they have actually shipped to Google Play. Not a generic "Android developer" keyword match.
- Scored technical assessment Run on Xobin. Only candidates who pass this go any further, and you get the report alongside the CV so you see the score before you interview.
- Live coding round A real problem in Kotlin or Java, solved while we watch. No take-home assignments, because those can be outsourced.
- Technical interview with a senior engineer Activity and Fragment lifecycle, coroutines and threading, memory leaks and frozen screens, Gradle builds and Play release experience, run by someone who does the job.
- Communication check and reference verification They will be on calls with your team, so we check that directly. Prior employer verification before any offer.
We hire for retention, not just for skill. That is why our attrition sits under 5% while the Indian IT industry average is 20 to 25%.
What you should ask us to prove
- Interview the actual engineer, not a sales lead. Ask us to put the engineer on the call unaccompanied. If a vendor resists this, walk away.
- Ask what Android version your app targets. Then ask when Google's next deadline is. A real Android engineer knows both without looking it up. A weak one has never heard of the target API rule.
- Ask how they would find out why the app freezes. A good engineer names the tool and the report they would open. A weak one describes the concept.
- Ask who holds the upload key and the Play Console account. Both should be in your company's name, not your vendor's or a former developer's. Ours always are yours.
- Ask who owns the code. Get IP assignment in the contract, in writing, before day one. We assign it by default.
- Ask for the attrition figure. Very few vendors will give you a number. It is the best single predictor of whether your engineer is still there in month nine.
Pick the Model That Fits, Not the One That Suits Us
Three ways to work with us. The differences that actually matter are hours, minimum term and who manages the engineer day to day.
| Model | Hours | Best for | Minimum term | Notice to exit | Who manages day to day |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated full-time Best value per hour |
8 hrs/day 5 days/week, approx. 160 hrs/month |
Ongoing product work, roadmap delivery, filling a headcount gap | 3 months | 30 days | Your lead, in your sprints |
| Dedicated part-time | 4 hrs/day 5 days/week, a fixed daily window agreed with you |
Maintenance, a second pair of hands, specialist input alongside your team | 3 months | 30 days | Your lead, in your sprints |
| Hourly / time & material Most flexible |
As needed billed on actual hours worked |
Short scoped work, spikes, audits, unpredictable volume | None | 2 weeks | Our project manager, or yours — your call |
Three things worth spelling out
- Starting is fast, whichever model you pick. Your engineer is onboarded and working two working days after you sign off. None of these models has a waiting period at the start.
- "Notice to exit" applies only at the end. It is how much warning you give us when you want to close the engagement, so we can plan the handover properly and redeploy the engineer. It has no bearing on how quickly you can start.
- Part-time means four hours every working day in a window we agree with you upfront, not eighty hours to be spent whenever. That way your engineer is predictably there for your standup and your working sessions, rather than disappearing for a fortnight and then working double.
All three models include the 5-day free trial, the 5-business-day replacement guarantee, 100% IP assignment and a signed mutual NDA. Daily standups and weekly written reports are standard. We work in your tracker — Jira, Linear, ClickUp, Asana, Zoho Projects or ours. Onsite deployment within India is available and priced separately.
Your Engineer Starts in 2 Working Days
Not "as soon as possible". Here is the actual timeline, and we will tell you upfront if your requirement will not fit it.
We understand the role
A short call or a written brief. Platforms, seniority, timezone overlap, duration, remote or onsite. Sukumar replies within 2 working hours.
Firm written quote
Rate, minimum term and notice period in writing. No discovery call needed first, no obligation after.
Three matched profiles
Full CVs with real project history, the Xobin assessment report, availability dates. Then you interview as many as you like.
Onboarded and committing
NDA and contract signed, access provisioned, engineer in your standup. The 5-day free trial clock starts here.
Six Things Most Offshore Vendors Cannot Say
Every one of these is a fact you can check, not a claim you have to take on trust.
Attrition under 5%
The Indian IT industry averages 20 to 25%. Ours is under 5%. On an Android app that matters: the engineer who knows your Gradle build, your signing setup and your Play Console history takes months to replace. Ask any other vendor for their number.
ISO 27001:2022 certified
Independently audited information security management, not a self-declared policy PDF. If your security team sends a questionnaire, we have already answered most of it. See the certificate.
11 years, 400+ clients, one office
Same founder, same leadership, same Coimbatore delivery centre since 2015. Oro Corp has been with us since 2015 and Tart Labs for years. We are not a brokerage reselling freelancers.
In-house first, 30+ partner benches behind it
80+ engineers on our own payroll in Coimbatore, and that is always where we look first. Where the match is not in-house, partnerships with 30+ Indian IT companies give us the reach — with us still holding the contract and the accountability. How that works.
We deploy onsite in India, not just remotely
Over nine years we placed Android, iOS, React Native, QA and business analysis professionals into Presidio's delivery centres in Coimbatore, Chennai and Bengaluru. If your requirement genuinely needs people in your building, we can do that. Most offshore vendors cannot.
You talk to engineers, not account managers
Your engineer joins your standup, your tracker and your repo, and reports to your lead. No layer of project management wedged between you and the person writing the code.
Java, Kotlin or Jetpack Compose: What to Do With an Existing Android App
Most Android apps we take over are written in Java with XML layouts. You do not have to rewrite them. Here are the four real options, and when each one is right.
| Consideration | Keep it in Java | Add Kotlin alongside | Move screens to Compose | Full rewrite |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it means | Keep Java and XML layouts. Fix bugs, upgrade the SDK every year, add features in the same style. | Write every new file in Kotlin. Kotlin and Java live side by side in the same app, so nothing old has to change. | Build new screens in Jetpack Compose and convert old ones as you touch them. Compose and XML views run in the same app. | Start again in Kotlin and Compose, and run the old app until the new one catches up. |
| Risk to live users | Lowest today. Grows over time as libraries and tooling move to Kotlin first. | Very low. Each release changes only what it touches. | Low, if done screen by screen with testing on real devices. | Highest. Every behaviour your users rely on has to be rebuilt and retested. |
| Cost and time | Cheapest now, slowest for new features later. | Spread across normal feature work. No separate migration budget. | Moderate. Pays back in faster UI work on new screens. | Largest, and nothing new ships to users until it is done. |
| Hiring market in India | Plenty of Java engineers, but fewer want to work on an all-Java Android app. | The mainstream: most Android engineers today work in Kotlin and read Java comfortably. | Growing fast. Compose is Google's recommended UI toolkit for new Android work. | Same pool as Kotlin and Compose, but you are paying them to rebuild, not to build. |
| Our honest recommendation | For most live apps, choose Kotlin alongside Java from tomorrow, and move to Compose screen by screen as each part of the app needs work anyway. Your users see no disruption, and the codebase gets easier to hire for every month. Keep it in Java only if the app is close to retirement. A full rewrite is occasionally right, usually when the architecture itself is the problem rather than the language, and we will tell you plainly if yours is one of those. Whatever you pick, the yearly Google Play target API upgrade applies to all four. | |||

Frequently Asked Questions About Hiring Android Developers
Including the ones most vendors dodge.
How much does it cost to hire an Android developer from India, and why do you not publish your rates?
Because a single published number would mislead most of the people reading it. Six things set the real rate: seniority, how many engineers you take, contract duration, payment terms, whether the engagement is remote or onsite, and whether you are contracting from India or overseas. A senior engineer on a two-year rupee contract with advance billing and a junior engineer on a three-month hourly engagement billed net-30 in dollars are genuinely different prices. Publishing one figure would mean overquoting most Indian clients or underquoting most overseas ones.
What we will commit to is speed: tell us the seniority, the headcount and roughly how long, and you get a firm written quote with the rate, minimum term and notice period within one working day. No discovery call required first, and no obligation after.
Will our Android app stay on Google Play if we do nothing?
Probably not for long. Google raises the required target API level every year. In 2026, new apps and app updates had to target Android 16 (API level 36) by 31 August, with extensions available to 1 November. Apps that fall too far behind stop being offered to new users on newer Android versions, and you cannot ship an update until the app is upgraded. Each upgrade usually means changes to permissions, background work and notifications, tested on real devices.
There is a second change coming. From 30 September 2026, Google began requiring a verified developer identity for apps installed on certified Android devices in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, including apps installed outside Google Play, and it plans to extend this worldwide in 2027. If your app is distributed directly to your own staff rather than through Play, plan for this now. Our engineers handle both as routine maintenance.
Our Android app is written in Java. Do we need to rewrite it in Kotlin?
Almost never. Kotlin and Java run side by side in the same app, so the usual path is to write every new file in Kotlin from tomorrow and leave working Java code alone until it needs changing. New screens can be built in Jetpack Compose, and old XML screens converted one at a time. Your users see no disruption, and the codebase gets easier to hire for every month.
A full rewrite is occasionally right, usually when the architecture itself is the problem rather than the language, and we will tell you plainly if yours is one of those. Krishna Bhavan's field sales app is in Java, and we still maintain Java apps. There is a full comparison of the four options further up this page.
Can you migrate our Xamarin app to native Android?
Yes. Microsoft ended support for Xamarin on 1 May 2024, and Xamarin's last supported Android target is API level 34. Google Play now requires a higher target for every new release, so a Xamarin app can keep running for existing users but cannot ship another update until it is migrated. For Presidio we placed native Android engineers in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose inside its own project team to move a mobile app off Xamarin, and that team was recognised in July 2024 for delivering a critical mobile app migration on schedule.
We migrate screen by screen against the existing backend, so your APIs and data stay as they are, and we test each release on real devices before it goes out. If you would rather stay with Microsoft's tooling, .NET MAUI is the official successor to Xamarin.Forms, and we will tell you honestly which route suits your app.
Should we build native Android, or use React Native or Flutter?
Go native when the app is built around the device or around Android itself: deep camera, Bluetooth or background work, Android-only hardware such as rugged scanners and handheld terminals, apps for a field team whose phones you control, or when you need the newest Android features on day one. Go cross-platform when you need the same app on iPhone and Android from one team. We staff all three, so there is nothing for us to gain by steering you. Our React Native and Flutter pages cover the cross-platform side in detail.
Can you take over an Android app someone else built?
Yes. Most Android work is picking up a project rather than starting one. We start with a short paid discovery: an engineer gets the app building in a current version of Android Studio, maps the modules, checks every library for abandoned or outdated versions, checks the target API level and any Play Console policy warnings, and writes up what exists and what the risks are before you commit to anything longer. If the app is in worse shape than you were told, you will hear it from us at that point rather than three months in. Futuristic Schools has never used another developer, and we maintain its apps today.
Who owns the code, the Play Console account and the signing key?
You do, all three. IP assignment is written into the contract before work starts, alongside a mutual NDA, and it covers source code, designs and documentation. We do not reuse your code on other projects.
The Play Console account and the upload key are the parts buyers miss until it hurts. Your Google Play developer account should be registered in your company's name, with us added as users, and the upload key kept in your own secure storage. With Play App Signing, a lost upload key can be reset, but only through the Play Console account that owns the app. If a vendor or a former developer holds either, changing vendor can mean republishing the app and losing your reviews and install base. Gainr and Futuristic Schools both publish under their own accounts.
What if our Android engineer is not a fit, or leaves?
Both are covered in the contract. You get a five-day free trial: five business days with the engineer at no cost, on your real tickets, and if it is not a fit you owe nothing. After that, you get a free replacement within five business days at any point in the engagement, with no need to justify the decision.
Leaving is the bigger risk on an Android app, because the engineer carries your build setup, signing process and release history in their head. Our attrition is under 5% against an Indian IT average of 20 to 25%, so it rarely happens. If it does, the replacement comes from our own bench or our 30+ partner companies within the same five business days. Ask every vendor on your shortlist for their attrition number, in writing.
How do you vet your Android developers, and how quickly can one start?
Our screening runs in five stages: a stack-specific CV screen covering Kotlin or Java, Compose or XML views, which API levels they have upgraded through and which apps they have shipped to Google Play; a scored technical assessment on Xobin, which a candidate has to pass before going further and whose report you get alongside the CV; a live coding round on a real Kotlin or Java problem; a technical interview with a senior engineer covering lifecycle, coroutines and threading, memory leaks and frozen screens, Gradle and Play releases; and a communication check plus reference verification. We do not use take-home assignments because they can be outsourced.
Three matched profiles reach you within 48 hours, with the assessment reports attached. Once you sign off, the engineer is in your standup within two working days. You can interview as many engineers as you like at no cost, and we will put the engineer on the call without a salesperson present.
Do you handle Google Play releases, or private distribution to our own staff?
Both. For Google Play, our engineers prepare signed release builds, push them through the internal, closed and open testing tracks, write the store listing, complete the Data safety form, respond to policy reviews and manage staged rollout to production. For apps your own staff use, the app can be distributed directly to them instead of through a public listing. That is how Krishna Bhavan's sales team receives its app. We will tell you upfront when a feature is likely to attract a Play policy review, which is usually background location, SMS or call log access, or account deletion.
Can your Android developers work onsite at our office, or in our timezone?
Both. Within India, we have placed Android, iOS and React Native engineers onsite at Presidio's delivery centres in Coimbatore, Chennai and Bengaluru, working inside the client's own project teams. Onsite carries allowance costs, so it is quoted separately and needs a longer commitment to make sense for both sides.
For clients outside India we work remotely from Coimbatore (IST, UTC+5:30). UK clients get four to five hours of natural overlap. For US clients our engineers shift their hours to give at least four hours of overlap, enough for a daily standup and working sessions. The overlap window is agreed in writing before the engagement starts.
What if you don't have the engineer I need, or I need a whole mobile team?
We look in-house first, across our own 80+ engineers in Coimbatore. If the match is not on our payroll, we have standing partnerships with more than 30 established Indian IT services companies and access to their benches. Either way you deal only with us: we source, screen and assess the engineer, we hold the contract, you get one invoice, and the 5-day trial, the 5-business-day replacement, the IP assignment and the NDA apply identically.
Teams work the same way. Krishna Bhavan's app was built by a five-person team: an Android developer, a backend developer, a designer, a QA analyst and a project manager. Per-head cost is meaningfully lower than hiring the same roles one at a time.
